VINCENT CARELLI

Vincent Carelli, after 40 years of actuation as an indigenist, created in 1987 the Vídeo nas Aldeias project, that aims to put video at the service of political and cultural projects of indigenous people. Vincent Carelli produced a series of 16 documentaries about the methods and results of this work.

"A Arca dos Zo’é", received several awards among which the prize od the 16º Tokyo Video Festival and of the Cinéma du Réel in Paris, and "O Espírito da TV", "A Arca dos Zo’é" and "Eu já fui seu Irmão" were transmitted by Canal+ in France and in other television channels over the world.

In 1999, Carelli received for Video nas Aldeias the UNESCO Prize at the 6ª Mostra Internacional do Filme Etnográfico for respect to cultural diversity and search of pacific interethnical relations.

In 2000, Carelli realized the series "Índios no Brasil", ten videos for chanal TV Escola of Brazil\'s Ministry of Education. The series, with 10 000 copies distributed in public schools, has been retransmitted regularly on public TV channels, reaching millions of Brazilians.

Vincent Carelli is now Executive Director of the NGO Video nas Aldeias in Olinda and actuates as a teacher for indigenous filmmakers and producer of their films, as well as a documentarist himself.

 In January 2009, he has finalized the feature “Corumbiara, They shoot Indians, don´t they”, about all his trajectory side by side with isolated peoples in South Rondônia.
