MARI CORRÊA

Mari Corrêa is a director and editor of documentaries. From 2000 to 2009, she was the co-director of the NGO Vídeo nas Aldeias (Video in the Villages). She studied Social Sciences at PUC, in São Paulo, Brazil, and Cinema at Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris III. She began her professional career in 1986, in France, working as an editor for both documentary and fiction films. Between 1986 and 2004, she edited documentaries produced by French independent companies and European TV channels. In 1987, she made her debut as a director (Atelier VARAN – Paris) and began to form videomakers. In 1996, she directed “O Corpo e os Espíritos” [“The Body and the Spirits”], receiving the award for Best Documentary in the Bilan du Film Etnographique, at the Musée de l’Homme, in Paris. In 1997, she directed “Voix Indienne” [“Indian Voice”], a co-production of Les Films du Village and TV Arte, France. In Brazil, she co-directed the videos “Vídeo nas Aldeias Se Apresenta” [“Video in the Villages Presents Itself”] and "Ou Vai ou Racha” [“It’s Now or Never”], both produced by Vídeo nas Aldeias. Between 2005 and 2006, she co-directed with Karané Ikpeng the documentary “Pïrinop, Meu Primeiro Contato” [“My First Contact”].
